Ultra Fast Photon Counters / Questions and Answers
We observe following problem with the MCS8A purchased. The temperature of the FPGA remains 38 degrees and then rises to 200 degrees after about 30 minutes, and the TDC does not work. How can it be fixed?
We think we have found the reason of the problem of the customer with the MCS8. We are convinced that the MCS8 is ok.
If "Energy Saving" is enabled in the PC and a measurement is running, the following happens after the PC was getting in standby mode: After waking up the PC, only the runtime is still increasing but the display is freezed. The communication with the MCS8 is dead. The shown temperature is 230 degrees.
In this case the only way to get the MCS8 running again is to terminate the software, remove the power from the MCS8 for a few seconds, plug in the power again and restart the software after about 10 seconds.
"Energy Saving" must be disabled in the PC, then everything will work.
