These dc-coupled input units offer significant advantages in picosecond timing with ultra-fast detectors. Primary applications are in TOF-mass spectrometry, LIDAR, single-photon-counting, fluorescence/phosphorescence lifetime spectrometry and related pulse processing applications where the DC-coupling feature can prevent peak shifts due to counting rate variations that are inherent with the AC-coupled devices available previously. To our knowledge the TA2400 is the only high speed amplifier with a bandwidth over 2 GHz that is DC coupled. DC coupling avoids count rate related amplitude shifts due to non DC balanced pulse trains and the corresponding coupling capacitor charging. Similar to the TA1800 a test with a 30mV P-P pulse and a P7889 100ps TOF analyzer showed an improvement of 10...15% in peak width (FWHM) when a TA2400 was used for amplification of the small pulse signal.
